The Sands of Time
This is one of my favorite paintings that I’ve made so far. It’s all about time and if you look closely and read the symbols you’ll understand. I’ve been surprised at the number of people that are creeped out by the Reaper figure. He is merely the symbol for the end, and end we all must face. Opposite the Reaper is Baby New Year, the symbol for the beginning. The pocket watch and the hour glass are the obvious symbols of time. In the lower left you have the representation of the passage of time in the forms of the Babe, the Maiden, the Mother, and the Grandmother or Crone. Analogous to these archetypes are Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. I may tackle this subject again in the future because the mystery of it intrigues me. This painting is oil on canvas and is 57.5″ x 29.5″.
